Zumkeller M, Behrmann R, Heissler HE, Dietz H. Computed tomographic criteria and survival rate for patients with acute subdural hematoma. Neurosurgery 1996;39: 708–713 Among 174 patients with acute subdural hematomas, hematoma thickness exceeding 18 mm was associated with survival rates that progressively fell below 50%. A 50% survival rate was reached when the midline shift reached 50%, and survival fell to zero when the shift reached 28 mm. If the midline shift was less than 3 mm more than the thickness of the subdural, survival rate progressively declined from the 50% level.MJ.A.B.
